Windsor Castle

Opening Times

The Castle is open daily on the following times...

March to October
09:45 - 17:15 (last admission 16:00)

November to February
09:45 - 16:15 (last admission 15:00)

The Castle is closed on the following dates...
14 April (however free admission to the Castle Precincts is possible)
16 April (castle closed am, admissions from 13:00)
21, 22, 23 April
30 April (castle closed pm, last admissions at 12 noon)
19 June
25 and 26 December

The State Apartments are closed:
2, 3 May
17, 20 June

As a working Royal palace, the Castle is used frequently by The Queen for State ceremonies and official entertaining. Please check opening arrangements before planning a visit (24-hour information line: 01753 831118).

Reduced admission charges apply when the State Apartments are closed. Visitors can still enjoy the extensive Castle Precincts, St George's Chapel, Queen Mary's Dolls' House, the Castle Exhibition and the exhibition in the Drawings Gallery.


St. George's Chapel

St. George's Chapel is open every day to visitors except:
1st March 2006 (Chapel opens at 10:30)
21 and 22 April
6 May (Chapel closes at 13:00)
13 May (Chapel closes at 13:00)
5 June (Chapel closes at 13:00)
16 and 17 June
19 June
22 July (Chapel closes at 13:00)
28 October (Chapel closes at 13:00)
15 December (Chapel opens at 10:30)
23 December (Chapel closes at 13:00)
24 December (Chapel closed, other than to worshippers attending services)

Also, please note that St. George's Chapel is open every day to visitors except Sunday's as services are held throughout the day... However, worshippers are welcome to attend these services.


Changing of the Guard

A visit to Windsor Castle isn't quite the same unless you see the changing of the guards. It happens on alternate days at 11:00, weather permitting with the exception of Sundays.

Buying a ticket in advance
To save time it is best to book your tickets in advance. You can either buy online or telephone the credit card booking line on(+44) (0) 20 7766 7304. All major credit cards are accepted. A transaction fee of £1.00 per ticket applies.

Buying a ticket on the day
Tickets are available on arrival from the Admissions Centre.

Group Tickets
Groups of 15 or more receive a discounted admission rate.
Tickets can be purchased on the day from the Group Ticket Desk in the Admission Centre or be purchased in advance. To book in advance please see the advanced booking details above.

Adult £12.15
Over 60/Student (with valid ID) £10.80
Under 17 £6.75
Under 5 Free

Ticket prices when the State Apartments are closed:
Adult £6.50
Over 60/Student (with valid ID) £5.50
Under 17 £3.50

Visitors with disabilities

Most public areas are accessible for wheelchair-users, including the State Apartments. Unfortunately for architectural and safety reasons it has not proved possible to provide wheelchair access to the Semi-State Rooms.

Wheelchairs can be borrowed, free of charge, from the Visitor Centre. However, they cannot be pre-booked and must remain in the Castle grounds.
