Savill Garden
History
Sir Eric Savill built Savill Garden in 1932 under the guidance
of King George V and Queen Mary. In 1951 King George VI
commanded its name be changed from the "Bog Garden" to the more
pleasant sounding "Savill Garden" and in 1955 Eric Savill became
Sir Eric Savill.
From the initial streamside plantings below the Temperate House,
the area has been extended to become one of the finest woodland
gardens in the world.
With the seasonal variations shown in such clear beauty, it is
worth making a visit to the Gardens throughout the year. Please
note, however, that Savill Garden is closed on Christmas Day &
Boxing Day.
